American Suburb was part of the installation and performance piece American Dream 4. The suspended assembly of windows in space, surrounding and leading to the broken armchair were to suggest a typical nighttime drive through any nearby area suburb. As the viewer, from the front of the installation, the viewer fills in as one of 2 missing elements — the television set. From the back, the viewer can imagine his or herself as the American television watcher, in the grand command seat. From either side, the viewer gets a neo-Futuristic glimpse of houses going by during a casual drive through town.

The 'missing elements' definitely suggest the emptiness of television watching activities, activities that oftentime fill 4 to 6 hours of the average American's time per night. Time that often goes 'missing'.
